Minnesota Swarm Are Moving To Atlanta

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – The Minnesota Swarm announced that they are officially heading south.

The team announced that they would be moving to the Atlanta area and playing home games at The Arena at Gwinnett Center in (perhaps ironically) Duluth, Georgia.

The Swarm was founded in 2004. They have played at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul the past 11 seasons.

The team's owner, John Arlotta, said that the team's lease is now up and it's time to move on. Arlotta said their business model won't stay successful in Minnesota.

"The sport of lacrosse is growing at a rapid pace in Georgia and we're thrilled to bring the fastest game on two feet at the professional level to The Arena at Gwinnett Center," Arlotta said. "With its high-scoring nature, and gameplay which resembles hockey and basketball in many ways, the NLL is enjoyable for lacrosse and non-lacrosse fans alike, and is great family entertainment."
