CBS News Minnesota

As many parts of Minnesota are now either in active severe weather warnings or tornado watches, a number of schools in Minnesota have already announced early closures and pulled the plug on after-school activities.

As of Monday afternoon, a number of metro area school districts had announced they would be canceling afternoon and evening activities, including St. Paul, Blooomington, Brooklyn Center, Forest Lake and Richfield.

Additionally, places like Breck School, International School of Minnesota, Parnassus Preparatory School and Red Rock Central Public Schools have all announced either early closings or the cancellation of afternoon and/or evening activities.  See the full list below.

According to WCCO meteorologist Chris Shaffer, all severe weather ingredients are still in play until early Monday evening, as large hail and strong tornadoes are still possible.

Later, Shaffer says the threat shifts to a damaging wind and a weaker tornado threat.
