Body Recovered From Lake Independence

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A body was recovered by authorities at Lake Independence in Maple Plain, Minn. Tuesday morning.

Investigators said that an elderly man and his wheelchair were both recovered from the water. The man was dead when authorities arrived after 6 a.m. They were summoned after a fisher noticed something in the water and called 911.

The Hennepin County Medical Examiner had a vehicle on the scene. Corcoran Police, Medina Police, and West Hennepin Public Safety also responded to the incident.

Authorities said that the drowning does not appear to have been foul play.

Investigators are still working to determine the circumstances of the man's death. He was not identified, but authorities said he was from the metro area.
