A man is dead after crashing his car on the side of a highway in the Twin Cities, then getting out and "walking into the lanes of traffic," where he was hit by another driver, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.

The 66-year-old Forest Lake man left the roadway on northbound Interstate 35E just north of County Road J in Lino Lakes around 5:30 p.m. Sunday.

A 26-year-old driver in a Honda CR-V struck the man when he walked into traffic, the patrol said. That driver was uninjured, but the Forest Lake man was killed.

The decedent has not been named publicly.
