Identities Released In Fatal Mower County Crash

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The two people involved in a fatal crash between a semi-truck and a passenger car in Mower County have been identified.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, the broadside crash occurred shortly before 8:30 a.m. Wednesday on Highway 63 at milepost 26.

The state patrol says the semi was traveling northbound on Highway 63 when the driver lost control, causing the semi and its trailer to jackknife. A Chevrolet Impala traveling the opposite direction then struck the semi.

The driver of the Impala, identified as 23-year-old Derek Soltau, was killed in the crash.

The semi driver, 58-year-old Mario Salinas of Arlington, Texas, suffered no apparent injury.

Road conditions at the time were described as icy.
