Hermantown, Eden Prairie Top Seeds In State Hockey Tournament

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — The Hermantown Hawks have returned to the Minnesota boys state hockey tournament for another try at taking the title.

Hermantown is the top seed in Class 1A. The Hawks play Wednesday at Xcel Energy Center in the quarterfinals against Litchfield/Dassel-Cokato.

Hermantown, which won the championship in 2007, has been the runner-up each of the last six years. Other matchups are Mankato West against Breck, Princeton against Thief River Falls and St. Cloud Cathedral against St. Paul Academy.

In Class 2A, Eden Prairie is the top seed. The Eagles, who were champions in 2009 and 2011, play Thursday in the quarterfinals against Anoka. Other matchups are Farmington against Stillwater, Burnsville against Wayzata and Bemidji against Grand Rapids.

Last year's champions East Grand Forks and Lakeville North did not qualify this time.
