Guthrie Giving Some MPS Students Free 'Pericles' Tickets

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The Guthrie Theater plans to provide free tickets to a production of Shakespeare's "Pericles" to some Minneapolis students.

The Guthrie will provide free matinee tickets to 2,109 ninth-grade language arts students from nine schools in the Minneapolis School District. The program is an expansion of the Guthrie's ongoing partnership with Minneapolis Public Schools and Project Success.

In addition to free tickets and busing, the arts partnership offers workshops, study guides and in-school visits to help students and teachers connect with Shakespeare's romance.

Students are invited to attend a 30-minute pre-play workshop. Each matinee is followed by a 45-minute post-play discussion.

New artistic director Joseph Haj will make his directorial debut at the Guthrie with "Pericles." The production runs from Jan. 16 through Feb. 21.
