Gophers Beat RIT To Get Split In Mariucci Classic

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – The University of Minnesota men's hockey team got a 3-2 win in overtime over RIT Saturday night to earn a split and third place at the Mariucci Classic.

Kyle Rau's goal at 2:34 of the overtime session proved to be the game-winner for the Gophers, who bounced back after a 3-2 loss Friday night to Merrimack. It was Rau's seventh goal of the season.

Vinni Letteiri tipped in a Christian Isackson shot in the first period to give Minnesota a 1-0 lead. With the game tied 1-1, Mike Reilly scored a power-play goal in the second period to give the Gophers a 2-1 lead. RIT tied it 3-3 at 12:52 of the third period.

The Gophers outshot RIT 49-21 for the game as Adam Wilcox made 19 saves to earn the win and improve to 10-5-1 on the season. Reilly was named to the Mariucci Classic All-Tournament Team

Minnesota (10-5-1, 1-0) resumes Big Ten Conference play next weekend with a series at Michigan.
