Free Bikes 4 Kidz Hosts Donation Event

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A favorite memory from childhood for many is riding a bike.

But not every child has the chance to have that experience.

So to make that happen, a local group has been collecting and giving away bikes for the past seven years.

It's called Free Bikes 4 Kidz.

And Saturday, they are hosting a donation event.

Those interested in donating a gently used bike can do so from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at any of the 48 locations.

Free Bikes 4 Kidz is the largest dispenser of free bikes in the country, giving away 5,000 to 6,000 bikes annually.

Executive Director Terry Esau spoke with WCCO about the event.

"There are a lot of kids that don't have bikes, so we've got to get all of those kids on bikes, every kid needs to own a bike." Esau said. "Go out in your garage, rub your finger across the bike. If there's dust on it, bring it in to us and we'll donate it."
