FAA Grounds Wis. Brewery's Proposed Drone Delivery

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO/AP) -- Earlier this week, WCCO reported on a Wisconsin craft brewery's plans to deliver its beer by drone. The Federal Aviation Administration has gotten word of the plan, and they're grounding it.

Lakemaid Beer posted a YouTube video of a drone delivery a pack of beer to ice fishers on Lake Waconia.

Lakemaid planned deliver a 12-pack of its lager to anglers on central Minnesota's Lake Mille Lacs using a drone, and would take orders using GPS coordinates.

But the FAA says contacted the Stevens Point, Wis.-based company. The agency says they're still studying the safety of drones and, until then, they're not permitted.

For the time being, the company -- whose promotional tagline is "great fishermen need great beer" -- won't be delivered by air. They will simply deliver to retailers by land.
