Fate Of Home Of Wetterling's Killer Up In The Air

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The city of Annandale wants to know what people think about the possibility of tearing down the house of the man who killed Jacob Wetterling.

The Annandale City Council is exploring the possibility of purchasing the former home of Danny Heinrich, which was most recently valued at $62,000 by Wright County. It's currently owned by the bank, JPMorgan Chase & Co.

At the same time, a citizen's petition is currently circulating to gauge community interest in also purchasing the property.

It's possible that the result could be that the home would be razed to create some type of green space where the house sits. Some have said it would help in the healing process.

Last month, a judge sentenced the 53-year-old to 20 years in prison for possessing child pornography. It was part of a plea deal in exchange for confessing to the murder of Jacob Wetterling in 1989 and finally leading investigators to his remains.

The city council has a meeting scheduled for Monday, at which the topic could be addressed.
