Cops: Alcohol May Be A Factor In Fatal Maple Grove Crash

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A wrong-way driver may have been drinking before a crash that killed him and another driver in Maple Grove, police say.

Michael Kelley, of Dayton, drove into oncoming traffic Friday afternoon on County Road 81 in Maple Grove.

First, the 54-year-old sideswiped another car, which caused it to crash. Then, Kelley continued down the road until he hit another vehicle head-on.

The crash killed Kelley and the other driver, 68-year-old Cheron Swanson, who was also from Dayton.

Three people were hurt in that first crash, but they're all expected to survive.
