Bus Carrying Students Catches Fire; No One Hurt

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (AP) — Officials say a charter bus taking 32 high school students on a field trip caught fire in Eau Claire, but no one was hurt.

The Eau Claire Area School District says the North High School students were heading to the Federal Reserve Bank in Minneapolis when the fire started Monday morning before the bus had left Eau Claire.

A fire official tells WEAU-TV that the bus driver realized something was wrong with the left tire and was heading to transfer the students to another bus when smoke and flames appeared. The students got off safely and transferred to another bus that took them to their destination.

The bus is owned by a Rochester, Minn., company and is expected to be a total loss. Police are investigating.
