Alzheimer's Nearly As Deadly As Cancer, Researchers Say
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Alzheimer's disease could be even deadlier in the United States than previously thought.
New research suggests Alzheimer's is nearly as deadly as heart disease and cancer. The study says death rates from the disease could be closer to 500,000 a year. That's about six times the number of deaths estimated by the Alzheimer's Association in 2010.
Researchers say deaths from Alzheimer's disease are under-reported, as medical examiners usually only list the more immediate cause of death, such as a heart attack or pneumonia.
