MIAMI (CBSMiami) - The third tropical depression of the 2018 Hurricane Season has formed off the coast of the Carolinas.

It formed Friday afternoon, with winds of 30 miles per hour.

It is expected to meander in place for a few days and then it is expected to head off to the northeast as a hurricane.

If this depression becomes a tropical storm, it will become Tropical Storm Chris.

Radar shows a disorganized batch of showers and thunderstorms in the area and may develop to spin over the weekend.

Residents along the North Carolina and South Carolina coasts should monitor the progress of this system during the next several days, according to the National Hurricane Center.
