ORLANDO (CBSMiami) - A toddler found face down and unresponsive in a kiddie pool has died.

Lakeland mom Ashley Norman, 18, said Tuesday afternoon she left her 18-month old son Cedric Phipps in a baby swing before she went across the street to check on some other children, according to the Polk County Sheriff's Office. When she returned, the boy was in the pool. Family members and neighbors called 911 and attempted CPR.

Sheriff's spokesman Scott Wilder says paramedics attempted to resuscitate the child on the way to the hospital, but he was declared dead.

An autopsy will be performed.
