'Suspicious' Man At Pompano Beach School Called A 'Misunderstanding'

POMPANO BEACH (CBSMiami) – Report of a suspicious person on the campus of Blanche Ely High School in Pompano Beach triggered a code red and massive law enforcement response Thursday afternoon.
The SWAT team and heavily armed Broward Sheriff's Office deputies swarmed the parking lot.
Anxious parents gathered near the gates and waited for news as yellow tape went up and BSO cruisers blocked the roads around the school.
"Parents were crying and that feeling, it was eerie," said parent Eric Skipper, who has three children at Blanche Ely.
The Stoneman Douglas High School massacre on February 14th still weighs heavily on everyone and when a code red is called, it is soberingly real.
"I was shaking, I'm still shaking," said student Tasha Chung as she left campus after a 90 minute lockdown.
Students say they've been drilling repeatedly for an active shooter scenario and everyone followed what they've been taught.
"We heard code red and we hid in the closet. We locked the door and cut the lights," said student Cheyenne Olson.
According to BSO, what was thought to be a threat was a misunderstanding.
