Poppinga: "If You're The Dolphins, You're Excited To Get Dion Jordan Back"
Former NFL linebacker Brady Poppinga joined Orlando Alzugaray on The Big O Show Tuesday on Miami Sports Radio 560 WQAM to discuss the impact that Dion Jordan could have on the Dolphins if he's reinstated by the league.
"If you're the Miami Dolphins you're excited...you got a guy that can come in and potentially a pretty impactful pass rusher," Poppinga said during the interview. "The second thing you're excited about is - whether or not he's on the PEDs or not - he's going to have some lingering effects from the PEDs...they just don't disappear. He may be clean...but it doesn't mean the affects all of the sudden disappear. At the very best you could end up having yourself one heck of a player that comes into that rotation with Cameron Wake and Mario Williams...On top of it, the guy has a little extra motivation."
A former No. 3 overall selection by the Dolphins in 2013, Jordan has been suspended twice by the NFL for violating the league's performance-enhancing substance policy. He ended up missing six games in 2014 - originally being issued a four-game suspension only to have it extended to six games after he tested positive for marijuana and ecstasy.
Jordan missed the entire 2015 season after being given his third strike against the PED policy for submitting a diluted sample. Jordan's agent has claimed that the former Oregon All-American has been drug-free since before he submitted the sample that resulted in his current ban.
The 6-foot-6, 250-pound pass rusher said he plans to file for reinstatement to the league later this week. Jordan's fate would rest solely in the hands of NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell.
