Neighbors Clean Up After Storms Topple Trees

MIAMI (CBSMiami) - Neighbors in several north Broward neighborhoods have clean up and repairs to do after overnight storms left a path of damage.

In Coconut Creek, several trees were ripped from the ground, one toppled onto a roof due to Thursday night's winds.

"It sounded like real high winds, like a train coming through," said Anthony Cardinale.

Cardinale lives on one side of a damaged duplex. His neighbors were home with their young kids when a massive tree came crashing through their kitchen.

"All I heard was a thump on the back then everything went quiet and calm," said Cardinale.

"We watched this tree just get uprooted out of the ground and you just heard a big crunch," said Dr. Nilay Mehta.

Downpours turned parts of Lyons Road into a river.

In Deerfield Beach flooded streets and parking lots stalled cars. In Margate, the weather knocked trees down outside of Nayeem Hassan's home.

"I was downstairs in the living room. My wife went into that master room and that's when she yelled out for me," he explained. "I ran straight upstairs. We have a one-year-old daughter. Luckily, no window shattered or anything. Everyone was safe and okay."

Those affected feel fortunate their homes weren't crushed-- and that no one was injured.

"I was lucky it didn't do more damage," said Cardinale.
