MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- Miami-Dade Fire Rescue crews rescued a man after reports he was struck by lightning Tuesday afternoon.

Lightning struck the top of the building between the 7th and 8th floor.

When they arrived at the building near 62nd Avenue and NW 7th Street, they found the building had no electricity.

Crews worked for more than an hour trying to figure out how to bring him down. Miami-Dade Fire Rescue had to use their stocks basket to eventually lower him down.

"This was an extremely technical incident which required technical rescue teams and a lot of ropes and rigging systems in which we could safely lower him down the elevator shaft so it was definitely time-consuming and highly dangerous operation as well for our crews," said Chief Michael Eng with Miami-Dade Fire Rescue.

Once they did get him down, air rescue was waiting. Fortunately, he seemed to be communicating with rescue crews.

As of Tuesday evening, his condition was critical but stable.
