"It felt like a freight train" Davie mobile home park damaged by possible tornado

Davie mobile homes damaged by possible tornado

FORT LAUDERDALE - At least 10 mobile homes were damaged overnight by a possible tornado in Davie.

Several homes were severely damaged at the mobile home park in the 600 block of SW 135th Terrace in Davie.

The high winds ripped the siding off some homes and also mangled a carport, the flying aluminum hit caused the power to go out after it hit a power line.

"My phone went off at 1:27 a.m., it woke me up, I looked outside and I saw their home, it was just, it was bad. It felt like a freight train was coming through here, that's what it felt like," said Chad Singleton.

The owner of the home that received the most damage said he was on the phone with FPL after his meter box exploded. He compared the noise he heard outside to that of a plane's engine.

FPL arrived on the scene to restore power.

A possible tornado also hit Pine Lake Plaza off Griffin road and Palm Avenue in Cooper City, nearly taking the door of a Subway store off its hinges.

A tornado in Pembroke Pines flipped planes at North Perry Airport, then made its way to Pines Boulevard where it left a trail of downed tree limbs and broken glass.
