Hundreds Show Support For Fmr. Gov. Jeb Bush

STAMFORD, CT (CBSMiami/AP) — Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush spoke in Connecticut Thursday night to nearly 700 Republicans.

Hanging over the annual Prescott Bush Awards Dinner on Thursday night was news that former Republican Gov. John G. Rowland had been indicted on charges he tried to hide his role in a congressional campaign. Rowland was elected governor three times, but resigned 10 years ago in a corruption scandal and served 10 months in prison.

Connecticut Republican Party Chairman Jerry Labriola Jr. downplayed Thursday's development, saying Rowland hasn't been involved with the state Republican Party for a decade. Instead, he said the party is "focused on the future" and "fixing Connecticut's economy."

Thursday's event is named after Jeb Bush's late grandfather, former Connecticut U.S. Sen. Prescott Bush.
