Gunfire, Explosions & Smoke During Drill In Miami Beach

MIAMI BEACH (CBSMiami) -- Those near the Miami Beach Convention Center on Wednesday will hear the sounds of gun fire, explosions, and even see some smoke. Don't be alarmed. It's just a drill.

Local, state, and  federal agencies from Palm Beach, Broward and Miami-Dade counties are conducting a drill called  "Operation RenderSafe."

It's meant to test and enhance response, in case of a large-scale incident.

Various regional teams are also being deployed including Haz-Mat, S.W.A.T., bomb squads, forensics and aviation crews. Other agencies involved include health and human services, communications, public information and emergency management.

The scenario  is taking place at the Miami Beach Convention Center parking lot until about 10:30 p.m.

The public is allowed to watch some of the training, but the rest is tactically sensitive.
