MIAMI (AP) — A Florida man is facing nearly three years in prison for punching a federal law enforcement officer.

A Miami jury last week convicted 67-year-old Lark Suddith of assault on a federal law enforcement officer. U.S. District Judge Joan Lenard scheduled sentencing for April 6.

Trial testimony showed that Suddith was in a security line at a downtown Miami federal building when he began loudly complaining about the wait time.

Officers repeatedly told Suddith to calm down and stop cursing, and then decided to remove him from the building.

Security cameras captured Suddith punching an officer in the face.

Suddith's defense was that he was justified in throwing the punch because the officer used excessive force. Witnesses testified that excessive force was not used.
