Dolphins' Jones Suspended For Violating Substance Policy

DAVIE (CBSMiami/AP) — Miami Dolphins' Jason Jones is out for the next two games.
The defensive end was suspended without pay for for violating the NFL substance abuse policy. The suspension stemmed from Jones' arrest last offseason for operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated, a person familiar with the situation said Monday.
The person confirmed the arrest to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the reason for the suspension was not publicly disclosed.
In a statement issued through the team, Jones apologized to his teammates, his coaches and the organization. The Dolphins also released a statement from the organization.
"Jason notified the team of this situation when it occurred, and has been in regular contact with the NFL, team officials and his coaches throughout the process," the Dolphins said, without providing details about the situation. "We were disappointed when we were made aware. Jason recognized and apologized for his lapse in judgment and has fulfilled his legal obligations."
The suspension begins immediately, and Jones will be eligible to return to the active roster December 5th.
"Fortunately no one was hurt because of my actions," Jones said. "This is something I learned from, and have taken the proper steps to ensure this will never happen again."
A nine-year veteran, Jones is part of the Dolphins' defensive line rotation. He has started five games this year and has 2½ sacks.
