Dolphins Hire Mark Duffner As New LB Coach

DAVIE (CBSMiami) – The Miami Dolphins have filled their only remaining open coaching position by tapping a coach with ties to head coach Joe Philbin.

According to the Florida Times-Union, the Dolphins have hired Jacksonville Jaguars linebackers coach Mark Duffner to take the same position with the Dolphins. Duffner has worked for three different head coaches in the last few years in Jacksonville (Jack Del Rio, Mike Mularkey, and Gus Bradley).

Duffner is a former head coach at the University of Maryland where he compiled a 20-35 record in five seasons. Before that he served as the head coach at Holy Cross for six seasons where he put together a record of 60-5-1.

Duffner spent one season as the defensive coordinator for the Cincinnati Bengals where his unit ranked 14th in points allowed and ninth in yards allowed in 2001. The Bengals finished 6-10 that season, largedly due to offensive ineptitude.

The new linebackers coach replaces George Edwards who left the Dolphins last week to take the defensive coordinator position with the Minnesota Vikings.
