FT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) - It was the U.S. Coast Guard to the rescue when a small boat began taking on water about a mile east of Lake Worth.

The six people on the 20-boat originally contacted TowBoatUS when they ran into trouble. When the tow company's captain arrived, he knew he needed help.

"The Coast Guard was notified by the towboat [crew] of the situation and immediately recognized the potential the situation may worsen. The timely response of towboat and the Coast Guard were instrumental to ensuring all six individuals returned safely to port," Lt. Cmdr. Andrea Parker, search and rescue mission coordinator.

The Coast Guard crew got the people off the sinking boat and took them to Curry Park. The crew from TowBoatUS salvaged their boat and brought it to shore.
