MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Miami Beach Police said they need the community's help in catching a man who robbed a local dollar store at gunpoint.

Authorities said an armed man, wearing a black hoodie and sunglasses, entered a Family Dollar on 1156 Normandy Drive at around 11:05 a.m. on Friday.

Surveillance video from inside the store shows the man walk up to the cash register brandishing what appears to be a firearm wrapped in a blue and white handkerchief.

Witnesses said the man told the cashier "this is a robbery and I have a gun."

The cashier opened the register, placed the cash box on the counter and handed him the money.

He reportedly asked her if there was another register, but she told him there wasn't.

The cashier also poured the change from a change box into a plastic bag, which the thief stuffed into his pocket before going around the counter looking for another register.  The cashier had to demonstrate to him that the register was indeed empty.

The man then fled the scene through the front door of the business.

In total, the man made away with $116.96.

If you have any information, you are urged to contact Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at (305) 471-TIPS.
