Trial To Begin For OC Hospital Worker Accused Of Raping Patient

SANTA ANA (CBSLA.com) — Trial is set to begin Wednesday for a hospital worker accused of raping a patient while he was assigned to care for her.

Francisco Ayala Jr., 30, of Anaheim, was charged with one felony count each of forcible rape, sodomy by force and forcible oral copulation. Opening statements are expected to begin Wednesday.

Ayala worked as a hospital emergency room patient care technician at St. Joseph Hospital in Orange.

Prosecutors say on March 8, 2011, Ayala raped, sodomized and engaged in oral copulation with 33-year-old Jane Doe in her hospital room bed while assigned to her care. She later reported the sexual assault to the hospital.

If convicted on all the charges, Ayala faces a maximum of 24 years in state prison.
