Three men wounded in shooting at Featherly Regional Park in Orange County

Suspect tried to run someone over before shooting at Yorba Linda Park, investigators say

Three men, including the suspect, were hospitalized after a shooting at a park in Orange County on Sunday.

Deputies were called to Featherly Regional Park, which is located at 24001 E. Santa Ana Canyon Road in Yorba Linda, at around 2:30 p.m., according to the Orange County Sheriff's Department.

They arrived and found the three victims suffering from gunshot wounds, each of whom was treated at the scene and taken to a nearby hospital. Their conditions were not immediately known.

Investigators say that they believe "the individuals involved all knew each other."

On Friday, investigators identified the suspect as 52-year-old Wildomar man Saead Ettefagh.

"We believe there was a dispute between the suspect and one of the victims earlier in the day," a release from OCSD said. "The suspect then returned to the Canyon RV Park and attempted to hit the victim with his vehicle. He then exited the car and began shooting before turning the gun on himself."

A fourth man was treated at the scene for minor injuries after he was hit by a vehicle, deputies said.

Dozens of law enforcements officers could be seen scouring the area in the hours after the shooting. A pickup truck appeared to have collided with a Volkswagen bus outside of a camper at the park where the investigation was ongoing.

Witnesses say that there was a birthday party happening near the incident for a 9-year-old child. They also said that there was an event for Volkswagen owners at the park, which is an annual tradition that is typically a family-friendly picnic that attracts hundreds of VW collectors to the area.

Investigators do not believe that the shooting was related to the event, however, but that witnesses said the victims of the incident were familiar faces in their circle.

"Just from the Volkswagen community, I'd seen them around," said Andrea Montano, who was at the park when the shooting occurred.

Deputies said that there was no outstanding threat to the community.

Anyone who knew more was asked to contact OCSD at (714) 647-7000.
