Sherman Oaks Man Charged With Running Over Wife's Chihuahua

HAWTHORNE (AP) — Prosecutors say a Southern California man has been charged with animal cruelty and other counts for deliberately running over his estranged wife's Chihuahua with his car.

A Los Angeles County district attorney's statement Thursday says 45-year-old Michael David Parker of Sherman Oaks has been charged with one felony count each of animal cruelty and animal neglect, and one misdemeanor count of petty theft of a dog.

Prosecutors say on Dec. 28, Parker took the dog to an alley in Hawthorne, ran over it and left it to die. The incident was captured on surveillance video and Parker was arrested.

He could get more than five years in prison if convicted on both counts and a special allegation of using his car as a deadly weapon.
