Rare 12-Carat Blue Diamond On Display At The Natural History Museum

EXPOSITION PARK (CBSLA.com) — A rare 12-carat "Blue Moon Diamond," that will be on display through January, was unveiled Friday at the Natural History Museum.

The diamond, one of the world's newest and rarest gems due to its unique color, size and clarity.

It will be on display in a special Gem Vault exhibition at the museam from Saturday through Jan. 6, 2015.

The gem was cut from a 29.63-carat rough diamond unearthed in South Africa and fashioned into a cushion-cut shape.
