Powerball Jackpot Hits $314M

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Lottery officials say the Powerball jackpot has soared to $314 million for Saturday's drawing, raising the possibility of another billion-dollar jackpot.

The current Powerball jackpot has rolled 16 times since a ticket worth $291.4 million was drawn on March 2 in Florida.

California Lottery officials say the last time the Powerball jackpot hit $300 million, it skyrocketed to a record-breaking $1.586 billion in less than two weeks. Winning tickets for that billion-dollar jackpot were sold in three states – one in here in California, and the two others in Florida and Tennessee.

Tickets for the Saturday's Powerball drawing, which are $2 each, will be sold up until 7 p.m. the day of the drawing.
