Man suspected of fatally shooting his son-in-law in Fontana already served time for boyfriend killing
The 83-year-old man who allegedly shot and killed his son-in-law earlier this week in Fontana has already served prison time for fatally shooting his daughter's boyfriend in 1996, prosecutors confirmed.
Richard Allan Parker was detained by police on Tuesday after a man was found fatally shot inside a Fontana residence.
Police were called to a home in the 6700 block of Winter Night Court at just before 4 p.m. after receiving reports of a shooting, according to the Fontana Police Department. Upon arrival, officers immediately detained Parker.
The victim has been identified as 50-year-old Joshua Fordham, a nurse at Emanate Health Inter-Community Hospital in San Bernardino. Officials shared a statement after learning of his death.
"Mr. Fordham was an employee at Emanate Health. After learning of this news, we are mourning the loss of one of our team members," the statement said. "At this time, we are offering support to those who worked with him. Our deepest sympathies go to those who knew him."
Neighbors caught the moments just before the shooting on their home surveillance camera. In the video, Fordham can be seen as he returns to his home, getting out of his car with his dog and entering the garage. About ten minutes after the garage door shuts, multiple police cars begin to arrive out front.
"I can't believe he's here one minute and the next he's gone," a neighbor said of the victim.
Fordham's wife, who is also a nurse, could be heard screaming after the shooting, witnesses said
Investigators say that Parker shot Fordham multiple times inside the garage. He was waiting at the front door when police arrived and took him into custody. He has been booked for murder and remains jailed without bail at the West Valley Detention Center.
Court records via the Oregon Department of Corrections show that he had previously served nearly a decade behind bars in Oregon for manslaughter connected to a deadly shooting in 1996. Jackson County District Attorney Patrick Green said that Parker was arrested in 1996 for the shooting death of his daughter's boyfriend.
According to a police report, Parker had told investigators at the time that he was tired of hearing the boyfriend verbally abuse his daughter and his wife. Parker accused the boyfriend of shoving his wife and shot him on the front porch.
A jury found Parker guilty of manslaughter, and he served nine years for that crime and was on probation until 2009.
