Officer Injured During Traffic Stop Near 91 Freeway, 5 Freeway In Fullerton Area

FULLERTON (CBSLA) -- Officers were responding on Friday night to reports of a Buena Park Police Department officer down near the 91 Freeway and the 5 Freeway, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Around 7 p.m. Friday, officers responded to a report of an officer down on the roadway, near the 5 Freeway, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The officer was on his way to work when he spotted a traffic infraction on the westbound freeway and decided to pull the suspect over, said Buena Park Police Sgt. Mario Escamilla. The nature of the infraction was not immediately known.

The motorist did pull over for a brief moment and then put his white 2015 Infinity in reverse to allegedly strike the patrol officer and his motorcycle, Escamilla said. An "officer-involved shooting'' occurred and the suspect sped away westbound on the freeway, police said.

The officer was taken to a hospital with stable vital signs and non-life threatening injuries, Escamilla said.

All lanes of the westbound 91, east of the 5, have been closed pending an investigation.

No further details were immediately available about the incident.
