Newly Naturalized Citizens Register To Vote In Downtown Los Angeles
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — More than 3,000 newly naturalized U.S. citizens packed the Los Angeles Convention Center Tuesday for a swearing-in ceremony.
Many of those new citizens were approached immediately after the ceremony by supporters of Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump and Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton, who were working to register new voters.
The new U.S. citizens emigrated from about 115 countries including Mexico, El Salvador, China and Vietnam. Many told KCAL9's Serene Branson they're eager to participate in the November presidential elections.
"I like Hillary," said newly naturalized citizen Farzana Ahmed. "The Democratic party, I like it."
"Of course we're going to vote for Trump," said Paulyna Kessman, who helped her brother Jose Gongira of Mexico register to vote. "(Trump's) going to help the military and we are a military family. We have two kids in military and my husband is a veteran, so we are Trump all the way."
