Newborn Girl Surrendered At LA Hospital

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Authorities say a baby girl has been left at a hospital in Los Angeles under the county's Safe Surrender program.

The newborn handed over this week is in protective custody and will be placed with a family by the Department of Children and Family Services, the agency reported.

County officials say the boy is the fourth this year to be surrendered under the program.

Safe Surrender lets someone give up an infant that shows no signs of abuse and is no more than three days old.

Officials say this latest turnover marks the 128th baby given up to the program since it began 14 years ago.
