NB 710 Freeway In East LA To Be Shut Down For 9 Consecutive Weekends

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — A small but central portion of the northbound Long Beach (710) Freeway will be shut down for nine consecutive weekends for concrete resurfacing work.

The northbound 710 between the Santa Ana (5) and Pomona (60) freeways will be shut down from 10 p.m. on Fridays until 4 a.m. on Mondays starting this weekend, and will repeat until the weekend of December 16-19, except for the weekends of Columbus Day, Halloween, Veterans Day and Thanksgiving.

Detours will be posted. Caltrans says the northbound I-710 connector to the northbound 5 Freeway will remain open.

Caltrans says motorists should instead use the 110 or 605 freeways to get around the closure.

"We are expecting maximum delays now, of about two and a half hours," Caltrans Engineer Denis Takayama said. Anyone who doesn't avoid the northbound 710 could find themselves stuck in as much as five miles of traffic, he said.
