Mother, 2 Children Rescued From Apartment Fire In South LA

SOUTH LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Firefighters rescued a mother and her two children Monday night from a burning building in South Los Angeles.

The fire was reported around 11:20 p.m. in the second story of an apartment complex in the 400 block of W. 80th Street near S. Figueroa Street, officials said.

A woman and her two children were helped out of a window and down a ladder.

"I started screaming and tears were coming out of my eyes," neighbor Edna Calderon said. "I was in shock, and I was like, 'Oh my god,' the kids are inside and we're going to get trapped in here."

The fire was knocked down in 13 minutes. No one was injured in the incident.

The cause was under investigation.
