Metrolink Train Catches Fire In Irvine, Passengers Exit Safely

IRVINE (CBSLA.com) — A fire on a Metrolink passenger train Thursday caused delays in Orange County.

The Inland Empire-Orange County train (811) stopped near Sand Canyon Avenue and the 5 Freeway in Irvine after the engine caught fire around 8:50 a.m.

All 56 passengers and three crew members were able to exit safely with the help of Irvine police, Metrolink said.

The train was heading from Riverside to Laguna Niguel.

It was unclear what sparked the fire.

Two OCTA buses picked up all passengers and will transport them to all stops between Tustin and Laguna Niguel.

The fire also affected line 802, which travels from Laguna Niguel to San Bernardino, but two RTA were en route to pick up those passengers.
