Man May Have Been Killed By His Own Jeep After Rolling Down 100-Foot Embankment

SAN BERNARDINO (AP) — A man who called 911 to report that the jeep he was driving fell 100 feet down a Southern California hill has died.

Rodd Mascis, a spokesman for the San Bernardino Fire Department, said the vehicle went off a dirt road in the foothills above Cal State San Bernardino on Sunday.

The Riverside Press-Enterprise reports that the man was ejected from the jeep and that at some point, the vehicle might have rolled over him.

The victim initially stayed on the phone with dispatchers, telling them he had injured his leg and helping guide rescuers to his location.

Mascis said he was unconscious when rescuers reached him. He was flown to a hospital, where he died.
