Man Fatally Struck On Side Of 710 Freeway In Lynwood

LYNWOOD (CBSLA.com) — A man was killed Friday when he was struck by a vehicle on the Long Beach (710) Freeway, the California Highway Patrol said.

The crash happened around 3:15 a.m. on the northbound 710 Freeway at Imperial Highway.

Officials said a 57-year-old Bell Gardens man was outside his stalled Ford Explorer in the No. 2 lane when he was fatally struck by a Chevy Silverado truck.

"It was determined that the driver of the Ford Explorer exited his vehicle at some point and stood in the #2 lane waving his arms and a ball cap in an apparent effort to draw the approaching motorists attention.  Unfortunately, the driver of the Chevy Silverado was unable to stop in time to avoid a collision," a CHP report said.

A SigAlert was issued at 3:37 a.m. and all northbound lanes were shut down for an investigation.

It was canceled just before 6 a.m.

The 38-year-old driver of the Silverado was arrested on unknown charges.
