Rowdy fans, street takeovers prompt dispersal orders after Dodgers win World Series
The Los Angeles Police Department issued multiple dispersal orders as fans took to the streets to celebrate the Dodgers' incredible win in Game 7 of the World Series over the Toronto Blue Jays.
The LAPD issued the initial Tactical Alert at about 5:45 p.m. as a precaution before Dodgers fans could take the streets to celebrate a potential victory.
Once the game ended, fans gathered outside and reports of fireworks going off were nearly instant after the final out was made.
As celebrations began, the Los Angeles Police Department issued a dispersal order at Figueroa and Chick Hearn/11th Street in downtown, just outside of LA Live, and another at Sunset and Echo Park.
The LAPD said less-than-lethal munitions were authorized for use in the area of Sunset and Echo Park after industrial-size fireworks were launched into a group of people, which included police officers.
At 10:50 p.m., the LAPD said a large group was vandalizing an autonomous vehicle in the intersection of 9th St and Grand Ave.
At least two street takeovers were reported - one in Echo Park and another in Pacoima.
The LAPD announced the following street closures:
- Pico Boulevard between LA Live Way and Grand Avenue
- Flower Street between Ninth Street and Venice Boulevard
- Hope Street between Ninth and Venice
- Olympic Boulevard between LA Live Way and Grand.
The LA Metro announced bus detours to avoid parts of downtown. Those detours can be found here.
