LAPD officers shoot, kill man who allegedly stabbed his father to death

At least one officer with the Los Angeles Police Department shot and killed a man who allegedly stabbed his father to death in a San Fernando Valley home, authorities confirmed Wednesday.

The department said officers headed to the 17200 block of Valerio Street in Lake Balboa around 8 a.m. after reports of a man suffering from a mental health-related episode. Upon arrival, officers witnessed the man assaulting his father inside a home.

At that point, at least one officer shot the man. He, 35, and his father, 61, were both pronounced dead at the scene. Neither of the men has yet been identified.

The suspect possibly had a history of attacking family members, the LAPD said.

A pair of scissors was located at the scene and taken in as evidence.

No additional details on the circumstances of the incident were immediately made available.
