'Grenade' Causes Evacuation Of Homes Near Marina Del Rey

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com)   —  Deputies from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department were called to a location Friday evening following reports that neighbors found a grenade in a neighborhood near Marina del Rey.

Officials were called to the 5100 block of Marvale Drive to investigate the finding just after 10 p.m. Friday.

Homeowners moving into a residence reportedly saw the device -- pin intact -- and called for help.

Deputies evacuated the immediate vicinity and called Sheriff's Arson/Explosive Detail investigators to the scene.

After closer inspection, investigators determined the grenade was actually a toy that didn't contain any explosive material.

Given the all-clear, residents returned to their homes.

Officials asked anyone with information about this incident to call the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department's Arson/Explosives Detail at (323) 881 -7500.
