Firefighters Quickly Knock Down Newhall Pass Brush Fire

NEWHALL (CBSLA.com) — Firefighters quickly got a handle on a small brush fire that broke out along the northbound Antelope Valley (14) Freeway in the Newhall area.

The fire was reported about 11:45 a.m. north of Sierra Highway, according to the California Highway Patrol. About three acres were scorched.

The northbound 14 Freeway was closed about 12:25 p.m. for about 10 minutes as a precaution, but only two lanes remained blocked afterward as the firefighting effort continued.

Four water-dropping helicopters assisted ground crews to keep the flames from spreading.

A red flag warning was issued for the valleys Friday through 6 p.m. The windy conditions seemed to whip up dust the National Weather Service said was linked to the recent Sand Fire.
