Partial Closure In Effect For Stretch Of 710 Freeway In Monterey Park

MONTEREY PARK (CBSLA.com) — Motorists planning to the use the 710 Freeway in the Monterey Park area this weekend may want to look for an alternate route or prepare for delays, thanks to a major closure that began Friday night.

According to Caltrans, the southbound 710 Freeway will have only one lane open between the 10 and Pomona 60 freeways to accommodate the placement of concrete slabs. Connector ramps from the 10 Freeway to the southbound 710 will also be closed.

Cal State LA Professor Jon Beaupre said the closure is a significant inconvenience.

"Cal State LA is right at the head of the 710 freeway. We depend on that artery to get on campus and off campus," he said. "To have that stretch closed can be a real hassle."

The closures began at 10 p.m. and will continue until 5 a.m. Monday.

The work is part of a $120 million pavement replacement project on the 710 Freeway between the Century (105) Freeway and the 10. The project is scheduled to be completed later this year.
