Reckless pursuit driver in custody after trying to flee under 60 Freeway in East LA

Los Angeles Sheriff's Department deputies took a reckless pursuit driver into custody under a 60 Freeway overpass in East Los Angeles after the suspect attempted to flee on foot. 

Deputies chased the suspect through the San Gabriel Valley and into Los Angeles. The driver of a Hyundai Elantra raced along surface streets in Montebello, running stop signs and driving on the wrong side of the road at times. The chase continued into East Los Angeles in residential areas, where the driver reached speeds of 70 mph.

Around 11:15 a.m., the driver moved onto the 5 Freeway north before quickly exiting into a residential area in Boyle Heights. The driver then went off-road and drove onto a dirt area in the freeway median and moved under a 60 Freeway overpass near Pomona Boulevard.

Deputies searched for the suspect on foot in a grassy area under the freeway, where the driver was ultimately taken into custody.
