Homicide Detectives Investigate Deadly Shooting In Bell Gardens

BELL GARDENS (CBSLA.com) — Homicide detectives Thursday investigated the circumstances surrounding the shooting death of a man in Bell Gardens.

According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, the shooting unfolded around 11:50 p.m. Wednesday in the 6000 block of Buell Street.

Upon their arrival, authorities located a 36-year-old Hispanic man in an alley suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

Paramedics pronounced the victim dead at the scene. His identity is being withheld pending family notification.

"It appears that the victim had been traveling through the alley looking for cans, bottles or scrap metal when he was killed," Deputy Trina Schrader said. "The victim is a known street gang member. It is unknown at this time if the murder is gang-related."

As of early Thursday, the suspect was at large and the murder weapon had not been recovered.

The investigation is ongoing.
