Deadly Crash Snarls Traffic Along Southbound 710 Freeway In Long Beach

LONG BEACH (CBSLA.com) — An adult man was killed Wednesday when his vehicle barreled off of the side of a freeway in Long Beach.

Around 1 a.m., officers were sent to assist firefighters with report of a traffic collision involving an overturned vehicle at the 6th Street off-ramp on the 710 Freeway, according to the Long Beach Police Department.

Upon their arrival, authorities learned a passenger vehicle struck a big rig on the freeway and drove off the side of the off-ramp for an undetermined reason.

The vehicle fell more than 20 feet off the roadway, landing in the area of Daisy Avenue and West 6th Street.

Firefighters extracted an adult man from the vehicle and transported him to a local hospital where he later died. The victim's identity is being withheld pending family notification.

Police said the driver of the big rig stayed at the scene and cooperated with officials. The driver did not sustain injuries in the crash.

All southbound lanes of the 710 Freeway remain closed at Anaheim Street until further notice.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
